Three-years M. D. in Community Health Administration (CHA)
As per the mandate of the Institute to provide appropriate trained manpower to meet the health needs of the country, the Institute has been offering NMC approved three-years post-graduate degree course, MD in Community Health Administration, since 1969. The admission to this course is done through PG-NEET counselling conducted by the MoHFW, Govt. of India. Out of 10 total seats, 5 are filled under ‘All India Quota’ and remaining 5 are filled under ‘University of Delhi Quota’. A student has to pay the online annual course fees, register in the Faculty of Medical Sciences, University of Delhi Portal and visit the academic section of the Institute with all original certificates, seat allocation letter, fees submission receipt, Bond of Rs 10,00,000/- during Monday to Friday between 9:00 AM to 5:30 PM.
This course is affiliated to the Faculty of Medical Sciences (FMSc), University of Delhi. The NIHFW conducts classes and training to MD (CHA) students and final examination is conducted by the Faculty of Medical Sciences University of Delhi. There are 4 theory papers and practical in final examination conducted by the university. The Institute conducts internal formative and summative assessment at the end of every year.
The Medical Council of India (MCI) in its Gazetted Notification of 2011 approved the MD (CHA) degree for eligibility of faculty positions in the Department of Community Medicine and Department of Hospital Administration. The alumni of this course hold very senior positions viz DGHS, Addl. DGHS, Director, Joint Director, Advisors/Consultants in Government, National, International organizations and Medical Colleges in the country.
In the Batch 2024-27, total 10 students were admitted and in the batch 2025-28, total 9 students were admitted and they are pursuing the course. Over the years, this course has become very popular among the health professionals in the country. Till date, a total of 329 students have passed out this course.
During the 3 years course, competency based syllabus is followed for teaching and training purpose. Students are trained at Rural Health Training Center, Najafgarh. Students are posted at the Urban Health Centres, viz PHC, Munirka and Poly Clinic, Masjid Moth for training. One month training in Hospital Administration is imparted at the RML Hospital, New Delhi. The MD (CHA) students have to submit Thesis after approval of Protocol by the PG Cell and Institute Ethics Committee (IEC) on the topic related to Public Health/Community Health Administration etc. during the end of second year as the per schedule declared by the FMSc, University of Delhi.
The MD (CHA) course is governed under the Residency Scheme of the DGHS, MoHFW, Govt. of India.
